Softening the Hard Edges Retreat: Moving Through Life with Ease & Grace
Soften your hard edges to live a healthier, happier life
Tom Roberts

We all experience the bruises of life’s jarring encounters. In this weekend retreat at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha), facilitator Tom Roberts will guide us to work with the first lines of a seventh-century poem by Zen poet Sosan to help us soften the edges. As our focus for the weekend, this poem will provide the foundation for healing and moving forward:

“The Great Way is not difficult for those who have no preferences.
When love and hate are both absent everything becomes clear and undisguised.
Make the smallest distinction, however, and heaven and earth are set infinitely apart.
If you wish to see the truth then hold no opinion for or against.
The struggle of what one likes and what one dislikes is the great unrest of the mind.”

The spiritual path has become crowded with numerous “methods” and practices. This retreat will be an opportunity to work deeply in a gentle and focused fashion, restoring our innate connection to the divine. We will embrace the opportunity to quiet the noise and distractions to become reacquainted with the essence of clear spiritual practice. We will work with silent meditation, creative expression and re-uniting with the creation of which we are a part.

Tom Roberts, LCSW, LMFT, is a licensed psychotherapist and clinical hypnotherapist who authored The Mindfulness Workbook: A Beginner’s Guide to Overcoming Fear and Embracing Compassion. As a retreat facilitator, Tom translates mindfulness techniques into practical strategies for healthier, happier living.

The cost of this weekend retreat is $230 and includes sessions, lodging and all meals (Saturday breakfast through Sunday lunch).
