Songs Like Seeds Retreat: Planting Hope Note by Note
Discover oneness through community singing with acclaimed musician Sara Thomsen!
Sara Thomsen

“I want to sing like birds sing
Not worrying who hears or what they think.”

—Rumi

Harmony happens in community! Songs sow solidarity. Songs sung with intention, like seeds planted with care, can take root in an individual or community and flower into unexpected fruits: simple joy, healing balm, increased sensitivity, awe and wonder, a re-enchanted and revitalized spirit, a grounding and centeredness, a deepening of compassion. The art and practice of community singing draws us outside of ourselves and at the same time deepens us within.

Come to Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) for this weekend retreat with famed musician Sara Thomsen. Sara will share ways she integrates music and the arts into community engagement and social justice work, drawing from her fifteen years as founder/director of the non-audition community choir and arts nonprofit Echoes of Peace. Participants will experience how song builds and bridges communities, note by note, part by part, breath by breath. In a casual atmosphere, reminiscent of the age old art of singing ‘round the fire, Sara will lead the singing of familiar and new songs carefully selected for their enriching themes and qualities. Songs will be taught by call and response. No previous singing or music reading experience required.

Come join in singing simple and compelling songs from around the world—songs of justice and peace, songs of hope and longing, songs of celebration. Come reclaim the joy of singing as a human birthright! Depart strengthened and empowered to cultivate community in a world hungry for harmony.

Sara Thomsen is an artist of the melody whose music touches the soul and invites us to respond for the good of the global community. Sara’s gentle, soulful and uplifting acoustical renderings celebrate the beauty of the cosmos and call us into fuller communion with the global family. Check out Sara’s website at www.SaraThomsen.com.
