Rooted & Branching Retreat: What Our Souls Learn from Trees
Deepen your spirituality through the wisdom of trees
Samuel Rahberg

“Listen to the trees as they sway in the wind. Their leaves are telling secrets.”

—Vera Nazarian

Whether we are wandering through lush forests, burned out woods, or groves of ancients gnarled by wind and snow, human beings cannot escape the allure and mystery of trees. They stand deeply rooted in rich soils, or they cling bravely to rocky ledges and branch upward and outward as best they can, modeling the courage and stability any soul would admire. The more we learn about the nature of trees, the more we see the wisdom of God they communicate through their growth and decay, strength and vulnerability, as well as their solitude and reliance on others. Join Sam Rahberg, a tree farmer and spiritual director, for this weekend retreat at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) to explore hands-on what insights for the spiritual life you might harvest from the woods. Bring hiking boots and rain gear because such prayer and reflection cannot be kept indoors!

Samuel Rahberg is the director of the Benedictine Center of St. Paul’s Monastery, author of Enduring Ministry and owner of River Place Tree Farm in Southeast Minnesota.

The cost of this weekend retreat is $230 and includes sessions, lodging and all meals (Saturday breakfast through Sunday lunch). The commuter fee is $180 and includes sessions, Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday lunch. A non-refundable deposit of $25 is required at registration. (Full payment is required to register online. If you prefer to pay the $25 registration fee now and the balance when you arrive, please call 319-395-6700.) If you want to stay in a Hermitage, you also will need to register by phone.
