Opening to an Extraordinary Life
Use creativity to remember what it feels like to be fully alive!
Jennifer New & David Gould

"Only that day dawns to which we are awake," Thoreau wrote in 1854, at a time that seemed much slower and more idyllic than today's harried world. Today, many of us are tethered to technology from the time we wake up until we go to sleep. If a friend asks, "How are you?" do you reply, "Busy"? You may long to feel awake, vital and meaningfully engaged in your life, but too often, you may feel overwhelmed and out of control. How do you not only stay awake to the beauty of life, as Thoreau suggests, but dare to believe you can live an extraordinary life?

In this weekend workshop at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha), use storytelling, movement and writing to reconnect with what it feels like to be fully alive! Learn techniques to weave into your daily life and reflective practices to help reassess your current habits and shift toward new ones. In this workshop, you will:

• Review the current "time famine" and cultural relationships to time, work and personal exploration.

• Reflect in partner, group and solo exercises around passion, meaning and self-definition.

• Connect to your body through gentle, playful movement.

• Tell stories that include moving, imagining into the future and presencing with others.

• Learn accessible meditation and mindfulness practices in the context of current brain research.

Facilitators Dave Gould and Jennifer New will lead this life-changing workshop. Dave teaches at the University of Iowa, where he helps 20-somethings envision meaningful lives in his popular "Life Design" course. Jennifer writes about creativity and teaches yoga, a practice she believes can link you to purpose and passion.

The cost is $190 and includes sessions, materials, lodging, and Saturday breakfast and lunch (or share a room for $180 each). The commuter fee is $140 and includes sessions, materials and Saturday lunch.
