Silent Mindfulness Meditation Retreat
Practice a variety of guided meditations in silence to cultivate mindfulness
Chris Klug

“Life unfolds in moments. The healing power of mindfulness lies in living each one as fully as we can,” writes Jon Kabat-Zinn. Mindfulness is an open, kind, non-judging attention to what is happening in the present moment as it is happening. It shapes a wise and compassionate relationship with and response to experience as it unfolds moment by moment. Scientific research shows that mindfulness can positively affect stress resilience, physical and mental health, the ability to sustain attention, self-regulation of emotions, interpersonal skills, and general well-being and happiness.

Come cultivate mindfulness in this silent weekend retreat at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha). In silence amid instruction, you will learn and practice sitting meditation, walking meditation, mindful movement and mindful eating. You are welcome to participate whether you are interested in beginning a formal mindfulness meditation practice or have been practicing for some time.

Facilitator Chris Klug has led retreats and workshops, has practiced mindfulness meditation for more than three decades, has taught in the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics since 2001, and now facilitates the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction series at Prairiewoods. Chris has over 30 years of experience facilitating retreats and workshops on mindfulness, nonviolence, creative conflict resolution, and grief and loss.

The cost is $230 and includes sessions, lodging and all meals. The commuter fee is $180 and includes sessions, Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday lunch. A non-refundable deposit of $25 is required at registration. (Full payment is required to register online. If you prefer to pay the $25 registration fee now and the balance when you arrive, please call 319-395-6700.) If you want to stay in a Hermitage, you also will need to register by phone.
