Perfectly Imperfect Retreat: Re-Writing Our Stories with Compassion
How can embracing your imperfections take you deeper in your spiritual journey?
Tom Roberts, LCSW, LMFT

Progress in the spiritual journey is not about achieving perfection. Rather it is an invitation to inquire openly about how the Divine is expressed in everyday life. You may miss opportunities to deepen your spiritual growth by ignoring how your imperfections are actually the grist for the mill.

In this weekend retreat at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha), embrace your imperfections in order to become free from old fears and self-doubts! Spiritual progress occurs when you soften your self-aversion and begin to accept and hold deep reverence for those aspects of yourself that you judge to be imperfect. During this retreat, explore stories that keep you from relating to your imperfections with patience and compassion. Seek to discover divine strength in the dark and difficult places through a creative process of re-writing your story to more accurately reflect your true and divine self. Invite compassionate acceptance to the parts of yourself you have judged the most unforgivingly. Through the exploration of time-honored contemplative spiritual/healing practices, you will enter a depth of healing that is integral to the spiritual path.

Facilitator Tom Roberts, LCSW, LMFT, is a licensed psychotherapist and clinical hypnotherapist who authored The Mindfulness Workbook: A Beginner’s Guide to Overcoming Fear and Embracing Compassion. As a retreat facilitator, Tom translates mindfulness techniques into practical strategies for healthier, happier living.
